Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic revealed what Emiliano Martínez did in training before the 1-0 win over Arsenal.
Having been unhappy with his display against West Ham, the 28-year-old asked some of his teammates to do additional shooting training with him.
Martínez let both of Jesse Lingard’s goals slip through his fingertips in West Ham’s 3-1 win at Villa Park on Wednesday – with his quality, he should’ve done better.
Clearly, the Argentine shot-stopper agrees, as he called on Villa’s forwards to push him to the maximum at Bodymoor Heath before facing his former side.
The £17 million man didn’t have to do that, but by going above and beyond, he showed his true character.
This is a glovesman who doesn’t settle for less.
Despite having the second-most clean sheets in the Premier League this season with 11 shutouts, Martínez still isn’t satisfied.
Nobody would’ve said anything negative had he not done additional training. However, he still wanted to do it in order to better himself.
Dean Smith really does have a gem of a professional on his hands.
Arsenal must be wondering why they ever agreed to let him go!
