Alonso is set to take his biggest step in management yet, after previously taking charge of Real Madrid’s Youth team and Real Sociedad’s B team.
Alonso has always been regarded as a potential manager of the future, right since his playing days at Liverpool.
And Reds fans have been keen to wish their former player the very best on his journey as a manager on social media.
Alonso is one of a number of former Liverpool players looking to make their first big strides in management now.
Steven Gerrard, of course, has made headlines for the job he has done at Rangers, but the likes of Robbie Fowler and Markus Babbel are also trying to make their way into the management.
Alonso’s job at Monchengladbach is certainly a high profile one for a manager of such inexperience.
But Alonso was a very smart player, and if that intelligence translates into his management then he could be an excellent appointment for Gladbach.
