Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that their state-of-the-art stadium had won quite a prestigious award.
What’s the story?
Well, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been named among the winners of the Royal Institute of British Architects National Awards for 2021.
The RIBA has been recognising elite architecture for over 180 years according to Tottenham’s official announcement, so this is quite a big deal.
It may not excite many supporters, although it’s certainly something to be proud of – RIBA awards are not just handed out for no reason.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now picked up 17 awards since opening in April 2019, and deservedly so.
It may have taken a while to build, and those trips to Wembley during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign were certainly tiresome.
However, Spurs now have a home to be proud of.
Tottenham’s stadium is Europe’s greatest

Of course, if you asked the fanbase if they’d rather see trophies and new signings over a stadium, they’d probably say yes.
However, infrastructure like this is what helps attract superstars to football clubs – for all his wrongs, Daniel Levy was right to build the stadium.
It’s an elite footballing arena, and avoids any of the problems seen in modern day stadiums.

For example, some newer stadiums – like West Ham’s – see supporters located too far away from the pitch, which results in a dip in atmosphere.
In Tottenham’s case, fans are situated very close to the pitch, which enhances the noise and also surely intimidates the opposition.
Let’s see what the Spurs fans on Twitter have been saying after the club announced their RIBA award…
