With just over a week remaining of the transfer window, Newcastle seem to be interested in signing a new goalkeeper as they look to stay in the Premier League.
According to Sky Germany, the Magpies are eyeing Arsenal glovesman Bernd Leno, who is free to leave after losing his place to Aaron Ramsdale.
The £100,000-a-week man wants to find a new club in order to make Hansi Flick’s Germany squad for the 2022 World Cup in December.
If the move happened, Alan Shearer would presumably be happy, as he was left stunned by something Leno did in 2019.
What’s the story?
Well, the 29-year-old somehow managed to make one of the best double saves the Premier League has ever seen back in 2019.
In the north London derby against Tottenham, Leno denied both Christian Eriksen and ex-Newcastle man Moussa Sissoko in remarkable fashion.
In particular, the second save from Sissoko was otherworldly – we have no idea how the former Bayer Leverkusen man reached it.

You can see how Shearer reacted to Leno’s heroics below.
If the German can bring these phenomenal reflexes to Tyneside, Eddie Howe might have a chance of keeping Newcastle in the Premier League.
As things stand, both Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow have made eight Premier League starts each this season, so there’s hardly an outright No.1 at St James’ Park right now.
Bernd Leno to Newcastle would be awful for Freddie Woodman
When Dubravka and Darlow have been absent this season, Freddie Woodman has stepped in.
The 24-year-old kept a clean sheet against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, and looks to have a bright future in football.

However, he would surely become concerned about his chances of game time if Leno was brought to the club.
If Newcastle decide to sign the Arsenal outcast, it may be time for Woodman to find himself a new club.
