Ryan Bennett has told Wolverhampton Wanderers’ official website that he ‘probably doesn’t get enough credit’ for other aspects of his game.

Bennett signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at Molineux, committing his future to Wolves until the year 2021.

Th 28-year-old has played every minute of Wolves’ 16 Premier League games this season and has established himself as a massive player for Nuno Espirito Santo.

He is primarily known as a no-nonsense defender – a role he more than enjoys – but the former Norwich City centre-back admits that his other skills probably go under the radar.

He told Wanderers’ official website: “I like to tackle people, I hit people, that’s the way it is for me.

“There are other things I do that I probably don’t get the credit for, but I know for us to be successful as a team, I’m not going to be the one who’s going to pick the ball up, go driving with it and set us up on these attacks.

“I understand that, and that’s good for me and good for the other players. There’s other people around me who need the ball, and if I give them the ball then they’re going to hurt people.”

Bennett is right in the sense that he only usually gets lauded as a tough-tackling, ‘typical’ English defender, but the fact that he’s being praised at all should be enough for him.

The Premier League is a massive step-up in class from the Championship and the fact that he has coped brilliantly with the increased standard speaks volumes for his defending, which is all that matters at the end of the day.
