Journalist says he'd have put his house on 51-year-old joining Spurs, now Levy's hesitating

Tottenham Hotspur could well have a new manager in the dugout before the Premier League resumes.

Antonio Conte ruffled some feathers at Spurs after the Southampton draw last weekend, to put it mildly.

He called a number of his stars “selfish” and claimed they are afraid of playing under pressure.

Conte also appeared to criticise the club’s ownership as he questioned the success under the current regime.

If the Italian goes, attention will turn to who could succeed him in the Tottenham dugout.

Few potential targets have elicited as much emotion from Spurs fans as Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine enjoyed a fruitful stint at Spurs between 2014 and 2019.

In that time, Pochettino transformed Tottenham into Premier League challengers and Champions League finalists.

The consensus amongst many fans is that Spurs were wrong to sack him and have since regressed.

However, there are now doubts among sources as to whether Pochettino will actually take the reins.

One report, from MD, suggested he’s holding out for the Real Madrid job.

Speaking on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel, Ryan Taylor admits he’s now not sure whether Pochettino will come.

Just a few weeks ago, he’d have put his house on the Argentine returning to N17.

“I said two weeks ago that I was absolutely adamant I would have put my house on Pochettino returning,” he said.

“But now I am not so sure, I feel like it needs to be right and now they will examine all opportunities.”

Spurs must get this decision right

Tottenham are right to really give this next managerial appointment some real thought.

Several options that looked like sure-fire hits – Conte and Jose Mourinho – haven’t gone to plan.

Likewise, Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t last long at N17.

Pochettino is a “world-class” manager who knows Tottenham like the back of his hand, and he’s available right now.

He’s certainly an attainable option and would no doubt arrive to much fanfare at N17.

However, Spurs need to make sure Pochettino is in fact the right option, or whether it’s just a case of nostalgia from last time he was in charge.
