It looks like Folarin Balogun might indeed be leaving Arsenal – but potentially not to join Liverpool.
Liverpool have been tentatively linked with a move for the in-demand Gunners hitman, who is out of contract in six months.
As a result, the 19-year-old Arsenal academy prospect is free to negotiate with foreign clubs as of last week and that is precisely what he is doing it seems.
According to The Athletic, Balogun is close to signing a pre-contract agreement with an unspecified club overseas.
At this point, it’s looking unlikely that a move to Liverpool is going to materialise – and here’s how some fans of the Premier League champions reacted on Twitter:
If Liverpool were genuinely interested, you have to admire Balogun’s bravery to reject them.
A move to Anfield is clearly above staying at Arsenal right now but, by the same token, this is a teenager who needs regular first-team football for the sake of his development.
And with Liverpool starting every campaign with the intention to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League, having won both over the past 18 months, Jurgen Klopp can’t guarantee him senior games.
