Micah Richards has suggested to BBC Sport that he believes Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a better player than Liverpool’s Andy Robertson.
Robertson was named as one of the top 10 bargains of the Premier League era on the Match of the Day podcast.
And Richards was effusive in his praise for Liverpool’s left-back.
However, if push came to shove, Richards insists that Alexander-Arnold is still the better of Liverpool’s two full-backs.
“He was a great buy,” Richards said. “I remember watching him in the 2016 Championship play-off final for Hull and you could tell he was going to be a top player.
“I always look at full-backs and whether they can defend or attack, and he can do both. He can press and read the game well – he can absolutely do everything. I still wouldn’t take him over Trent Alexander-Arnold though.”

That backing may mean a lot to Alexander-Arnold currently, as he has really come under fire.
The 22-year-old’s defending has been heavily criticised from all angles, after he was dropped from England’s latest international squad.
Alexander-Arnold initially responded well to that omission from Gareth Southgate’s squad, as he delivered an excellent performance for Liverpool in their 3-0 win over Arsenal.
However, the Liverpool right-back badly struggled in the Champions League in midweek, as Real Madrid picked up a comfortable victory over the Reds.
Alexander-Arnold will next be in action at the weekend, when Liverpool take on Aston Villa.
