Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has been discussing Tottenham and their ongoing interest in Alessandro Bastoni.
The Italian centre-back has long been touted as one of Spurs’ top targets in this summer transfer window, but after the defender’s agent came out and stated that a move this summer wasn’t on the cards for his client, it looked as though this move was dead.
However, Eccleshare is led to believe that there is a still a small chance that Bastoni could be on his way to Spurs.
What’s been said?
The journalist spoke about Bastoni and Tottenham.
“Even someone like Bastoni, I wouldn’t rule that out. I know his agent has come out and said he loves Inter and everything, but that’s happened before and then moved, partly they don’t want to seem like they’re agitating for a move, but I still think, maybe I’m hearing what I want to hear, but I don’t think that deal is totally dead,” Eccleshare said.

Unlikely
The deal to sign Bastoni this summer may not be totally dead, but it’s certainly on life support.
Indeed, sadly it looks like the Italian will be staying in Milan for the coming season.
His agent’s comments, although not definitive, were telling, while the fact that Inter look poised to sell Milan Skriniar would suggest that Bastoni isn’t for sale right now.
Factor in that it looks as though Clement Lenglet will be joining Tottenham in the not so distant future and a move for Bastoni this summer looks very unlikely.
Unfortunately for Fabio Paratici and Tottenham’s recruitment team, this may be one for next summer.
