Leeds United winger Mateusz Bogusz wants to stay at UD Logrones until the end of the season but, as coach Sergio Rodriguez tells Nueve Cuatro Uno, he must improve defensively to make the most of his potential,
While one Elland Road youngster is struggling in Spain, with reports suggesting Rafa Mujica could see his spell at Real Oviedo cut short in January, things are going a bit better for Bogusz.
The 19-year-old Pole has featured in ten of a possible 15 Segunda matches this season and opened his account with a well-taken goal in the recent 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
Logrones coach Sergio isn’t getting carried away just yet, however, reminding Bogusz he needs to add a more pragmatic string to his bow.
“With Mati, he is a player with offensive capacity but he has to get a little more defensive,” Sergio explains.
Leeds reserve the right to bring Bogusz back to Elland Road in January but, with Raphinha, Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Gianni Alioski already at Marcelo Bielsa’s disposal, the teenager believes he would benefit from a few more months of first-team football in Spain’s second tier.
“We handle the ball a lot. I feel comfortable in this system,” Bogusz tells Sportow Fakty.
“(Logrones) is the perfect club for me at the moment. It wouldn’t make sense (to return to Leeds). It will be best when I finish the season in Spain.

However, Bogusz scotched rumours of a return to his homeland.
“It is true there was interest from Legia Warsaw and Wisla Krakow but I didn’t want to come back to Poland. My priority was to stay abroad.
“I made a decision that, if it was possible, I would like to leave England, get to know something new, go to a new country. There were offers from Italy and Spain and I immediately set my mind on going to one of those countries.”
As those weekly ‘murderball’ sessions should tell you, there’s no room for passengers on Bielsa’s bus.
Leeds’ forwards are expected not just to dictate but also destroy, leading a ferocious press from the front.
Bogusz, then, would do well to follow Sergio’s advice if he wants to force his way into Bielsa’s plans when he returns to West Yorkshire next year.
