Arsenal fans have been left unimpressed by claims Liverpool have inserted a clause in Roberto Firmino’s contract banning them from buying him.

Firmino reportedly has a release clause in his contract of 98 million Euros (£83m), but it is one which Arsenal are not permitted to activate.

The claims were made in Belgian newspaper Le Soir, and also reported by HLN.

Liverpool’s specific targeting of Arsenal is down to bad blood between the two clubs stemming back to 2013 when the Gunners tried to sign Luis Suarez.

Arsenal’s £40m plus £1 bid was rejected by Liverpool, despite the Gunners’ hopes it would trigger the Uruguayan’s release clause. One year later he was sold to Barcelona instead.

Firmino has since become an integral part of Liverpool’s attack, able to play in a range of positions including up front.
