Xherdan Shaqiri has been speaking about his exit from Liverpool, and has revealed he actually wanted to leave Anfield a lot earlier than he did.
What’s the story?
Well, the 29-year-old joined Lyon in August for £9.5m, bringing an end to his five-year stay at Liverpool.
However, Shaqiri has said the Reds prevented him from leaving when he actually wanted to.
The Switzerland international told Watson: “I wanted to leave Liverpool sooner, but I wasn’t allowed to; the club wouldn’t let me go. The important thing for me is that I’m gone now. There were also offers from Spain and Italy.”
Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like there are any hard feelings.
Shaqiri went on to express his gratitude for Jürgen Klopp, after the German helped him secure an exit from Anfield.
The former Bayern Munich man adds that Klopp text him to wish him good luck and say thanks, after his move to Lyon was sealed.
Liverpool did superbly with Xherdan Shaqiri

With Michael Edwards at Anfield, Liverpool have become renowned for their excellent transfer business.
Their heroics in the market were witnessed once again in August when selling Shaqiri.
How? Well, the Reds only paid £13m for the diminutive attacker, and they got 63 appearances from him in total during his prime years.
Shaqiri helped Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, before being sold for a healthy fee.

The fact Liverpool got as much as they did out of Shaqiri, before almost recouping their £13m, is excellent work.
Additionally, Harvey Elliott was being nurtured in the background, and immediately came in as Shaqiri’s replacement.
It must be said, Liverpool are experts in the transfer market.
