Speaking on talkSPORT, Tony Cascarino has been discussing Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans and who they could sign.

Interestingly, Cascarino said that Mason Mount is a player that the Magpies could go out and sign if they wanted to, while he also named Wilfried Zaha as a player that the Tyneside club could end up with.

Zaha is, of course, out of contract at Crystal Palace come the end of the season, and he’s reportedly keen to move up in the footballing world.

With Newcastle knocking on the door of Europe next season, St James’ Park could be an alluring destination for the Ivorian, and Cascarino says he wouldn’t be surprised if Zaha ended up playing for Eddie Howe’s side.

Zaha to Newcastle

Cascarino gave his verdict on Zaha.

“They could have at the end of the season, I wouldn’t be surprised. I definitely think they could get Wilf (Zaha) down the left at Newcastle and I think they could get Mason Mount if they wanted to get him,” Cascarino said.

Would make sense

A move to Newcastle would make sense for Zaha at this point in time.

Not only would the Magpies be able to pay Zaha more than most clubs. They’d be able to offer him a consistent place in the starting XI and potentially European football.

It all depends on what Zaha wants. He could easily go and be a bit-part player at a Champions League club or he could be a starter at a team like Newcastle who are on the up.

Zaha’s situation is certainly intriguing and it will be interesting to see where he ends up after leaving Crystal Palace.
