Andy Townsend told Premier League Productions that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if reported Liverpool target Christian Pulisic left Chelsea.
The 22-year-old failed to produce the goods for Chelsea on Saturday as they recorded a goalless draw at Elland Road – he was substituted in the second half.
The Daily Mail recently claimed that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in the quick-footed American, alongside the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Hakim Ziyech, who signed for Chelsea in the summer, was also subbed alongside Pulisic and Townsend issued this response regarding their futures.
“I think both of these guys (Pulisic and Ziyech) with Thomas Tuchel’s set-up are going to have to get going pretty quickly,” said Townsend.
“I am not sure they are going to do that. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these two leaves in the summer. I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
“I don’t think Pulisic wants to sit and play rarely. I think Ziyech might get bogged down a little bit. I have seen his body language, it hasn’t been that great since he has come through the door.”

Whilst Pulisic has the versatility to play across the front three, his biggest strength is throwing his punches from the left flank.
But Liverpool already have Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota putting opposition defenders on their backsides over on the left-hand side even if the former hasn’t reached the levels he showcased last term.
Therefore, it has to be questioned why the Reds will push for Pulisic’s signature unless Jurgen Klopp plans to use him in a different capacity, or dare it be said as a replacement for one of the front three?
