Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Chelsea and Tottenham duo, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, should ‘swap’ clubs, as he told Off the Ball.

The former Anfield defender added that it would ‘work for fun’, but he doesn’t think such a deal would happen because Chelsea and Tottenham ‘hate’ each other.

There is a connection between Lukaku and the man in Tottenham’s dugout, Antonio Conte, because they worked together at Inter Milan.

Whilst the Belgium striker is struggling at Stamford Bridge this season, it would be quite the shock if he ended up in north London.

Nonetheless, this is what Lawrenson had to say about the out-of-form Lukaku and the previously struggling, Kane.

“I said about Lukaku and Kane, what about this swap in the summer,” said Lawrenson.

“Lukaku goes to Tottenham to play with Conte again. And Kane goes to Chelsea. I don’t think it will ever happen because they hate each other, don’t they?! But I was just looking at the way that the two strikers were playing.

“Before Saturday, Kane had been struggling. We could say the same thing about him ‘was he thinking about last summer?’ How he didn’t go to Man City. And is he thinking about the summer coming up where he could leave?

“The swap for the two would work for fun. But I think Lukaku will be gone in the summer and Chelsea will re-invest.”

Ever since Lukaku returned to Premier League shores for a big transfer fee, he has struggled to showcase his worth.

The 28-year-old has only managed five Premier League goals – three of which came against Aston Villa – and he hasn’t scored in the Premier League since December.

Added with that, over the weekend, he only had a remarkable seven touches during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

As for Kane, he produced his best performance of the season as he netted a brace during his side’s stunning stoppage-time win at Manchester City.

But that shouldn’t paper of the cracks in what has been an average season for the Englishman – he only has seven league goals from 22 matches and has also struggled this term.
