Jack Wilshere has been attracting interest from a number of clubs as his future hangs in the balance.

The 25-year-old made his Premier League start for Arsenal against West Ham on Wednesday with the majority of his appearances coming in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

Wilshere will have one eye on this summer’s World Cup and a place in the England squad, and he may seek a move in January to help enhance his chances.

The Sun reported last month that Real Betis felt they were close to striking a deal for the midfielder. Wilshere had offers from La Liga and Serie A prior to his loan stint at AFC Bournemouth last season.

West Ham United are the latest club to make their intentions known regarding Wilshere. The Guardian report that David Moyes has admitted his interest in signing the Arsenal man.

Moyes wants to re-energise the Hammers squad and he’s targeted Wilshere to be the creative spark from the centre of midfield but is it a better move than Betis?

The Andalusian club are currently 12th in La Liga but have gone six games without a win. They did spend nearly £30m in the summe, helped by the sale of Dani Ceballos to Real Madrid. Betis would offer Wilshere the chance to embrace and learn a different style and culture of football but he may have a better chance at fulfilling more of his ambitions at West Ham.

The Hammers are an ambitious club and playing at the London Stadium is an attractive prospect. Despite their current lowly position, the club want to be challenging for Europe in the near future and they have the resources to do that.

In terms of the short term, a move to West Ham may be more beneficial to his chances of making a late dash towards the England squad. Gareth Southgate watches a lot of Premier League games live, compared to the challenge of doing the same in La Liga, and it could be those sort of fine margins that give Wilshere a better platform to make the plane.

Remaining in London will also make life a lot easier for Wilshere and his family. With West Ham only a point adrift of safety, by the time January comes around they could be above the drop line and the England man could find himself at the centre of an exciting project.
