West Brom beat Championship club Hull City to the signing of Egypt international centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in the summer.
Ahmed Hegazi made his fifth Premier League appearance in West Brom colours in Saturday’s goalless stalemate at home to West Ham.
And, in total, the Egyptian centre-half has been part of a defence which has kept three clean sheets already this season. He was solid once again as The Hammers were forced to settle for a point, after previous impressive displays in victories over Burnley and Bournemouth.
Hegazi even scored the winner against the latter.
‘Nesta of the Pyramids’
Meanwhile, Hull City, the club West Brom beat to the signature of the Al Ahly favourite in the summer according to The Sun, could only dream of boasting such an impressive defensive record.
Only bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers have conceded more goals in the Championship than Leonid Slutsky’s frequently porous Hull so far this season, conceding 15 times in just eight league fixtures.
The Tigers have failed to adequately replace Curtis Davies and Harry Maguire, who left for Derby County and Leicester City respectively following their relegation. Michael Hector has struggled since joining on loan from Chelsea while veteran Michael Dawson is clearly past his best.
Whether the so-called ‘Nesta of the Pyramids’ would have prevented Hull from slipping nine points adrift of the league leaders within two months of the Championship season is anyone’s guess.
However, his superb start to life at West Brom only rubs salt into Hull’s wounds.
