Tottenham Hotspur have two important league games coming up.
If Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino follows his recent pattern of team selections, Serge Aurier should come in for Kieran Trippier when Spurs face Brighton and Hove Albion this week, with the latter then taking to the field against Manchester City next weekend.
But would that be a mistake from the Tottenham boss, with Trippier looking well below his best in recent games and Aurier better equipped to deal with City’s impressive forward line.
The prospect of Raheem Sterling running at Trippier is likely to send some Tottenham supporters into cold sweats, but they are likely to have a good idea of who will face the runaway league leaders when Pochettino names his starting XI against Brighton a few days earlier.
It could be argued that both Aurier and Danny Rose should be starting against City, at least if Tottenham want to give themselves the best possible chance of overcoming Pep Guardiola’s side.
Aurier has settled well in North London and, while some fans still see him as a liability, he is arguably a better option than Trippier against the best the Premier League has to offer right now.
Pochettino will have his own ideas, but only time will tell if they are the right ones…
