Sunderland had their interest in Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes rejected in the January transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday may have been better off sending Jordan Rhodes out on loan to Sunderland, if they are going to continue to leave him on the substitutes’ bench.
Rhodes has had a difficult time ever since signing for Wednesday back in January 2017, and it seems that things are only set to get tougher.
Rhodes has fallen out of favour under new Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay, with the striker now struggling for game time.
Rhodes was not even included in Wednesday’s match day squad for their last match, and it may be that the Owls’ should have accepted Sunderland’s moved for the Scotland international after all.
The Sun suggested that Sunderland were keen on signing Rhodes on loan on deadline day.
But Wednesday rejected their advances, and right now that seems like a decision which may backfire.
There is little value in Wednesday having Rhodes in their squad, if they are not using him.
The Owls may want to shift Rhodes on, but the more he is left out, the lower they will have to set his asking price.
If he had been sent on loan to Sunderland, things could have been different.
Rhodes has scored at almost every club he has represented other than Wednesday, and if he could have found form at Sunderland, interest in the striker would have been vast in the summer.
And, as things stand, it appears that Rhodes being at Sunderland for the rest of the season may have been better for all parties involved.
