Glasgow Rangers are interested in bringing young midfielder Ethan Robson to Ibrox at the end of the season.
It appears that heading into the summer transfer window, Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson is going to have at least three options to pick from regarding where he spends the next few years of his career, with The Sun recently reporting that Rangers and Celtic are also keen on the youngster.
The Sun reported that Robson is out of contract at the end of the season, and the Gers and the Hoops are both keen to lure him away from the Black Cats, for whom he has made five Championship appearances this term.
With Sunderland struggling to turn their decline around, staying with his current club may not be as appealing an option as it would be if they were guaranteed to be playing in one of the top two divisions in England next term.
Meanwhile, Celtic’s status as a side playing in Europe and winning trophies may perhaps tempt some of the people close to Robson to suggest considering a move to Ibrox if the Gers put a deal on the table in the near future as it would appear on the surface that a Rangers move will give him the best chance to enjoy first-team football.
But perhaps it would actually be fair to suggest that, of the three, moving to Rangers would probably be the bigger gamble due to the depth that the Light Blues already have in the middle of the park.
Celtic certainly have plenty of players available or coming through in central midfield, but right now as well as loanee Sean Goss, Graeme Murty can call upon Jason Holt, Greg Docherty, Andy Halliday and Jamie Barjonas.
And when you consider that the likes of Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Jordan Rossiter, Ross McCrorie and Liam Burt are either injured or making their way back from injury, Robson would surely face a huge task trying to get into the first-team straight away if he did move to Ibrox this summer.
And with six of those nine players currently aged 24 or younger and arguably boasting the potential to get better in the coming years, it is not as if a number of his potential rivals are necessarily going to move aside in the near future, so Robson is arguably taking a considerable gamble if he decides to move to Rangers while he is not an established star.
