A return to Aston Villa looks unlikely for Spurs’ Josh Onomah so should the Championship club instead target Jason Puncheon of Crystal Palace?

It seems as if another loan spell at Aston Villa is unlikely for Josh Onomah, despite the Mirror reporting earlier this month that the Championship club were keen on the move.
At the time Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was considering giving Onomah a chance in the first team, but now football.london reports the midfielder will be sent out on loan again after all.
However, a return to Villa doesn’t appear to be on the cards after comments from Pochettino that seem to suggest the Argentine was unhappy with how things went last season.
“I’m going to decide if he’s a player that can stay with us or maybe if we believe he can play more, to find maybe some alternative for him to play more than last season. But to try for him to be more involved than he was last season at Aston Villa,” the 46-year-old said.
Onomah alternatives
Villans boss Steve Bruce does have plenty of midfield options currently, although arguably is still lacking in the number 10 position that the Tottenham youngster generally occupied last term.

Jack Grealish looks set to make the role his own but backup will be needed and with Onomah’s future seemingly lying elsewhere, should the Birmingham club consider a temporary move for Jason Puncheon?
According to the Mail, Puncheon will be allowed to leave Crystal Palace on loan as Roy Hodgson looks to trim down his squad and with the ability to play anywhere in attacking midfield, could be a real boost in Villa’s promotion push.
