West Ham have a crucial fixture run-in during the rest of September and they could be left in a hopeless position if they come out the other side pointless.

The Hammers have three Premier League fixtures to get through, while they also face Macclesfield Town in the Carabao Cup.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are yet to collect a single point in their opening four league fixtures, which is why it’s pivotal they change that stat before the end of the month.

But they travel to unbeaten Everton on Sunday, before hosting London rivals Chelsea and Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

West Ham have a very daunting fixture list ahead of them and it seems the perfect time for Pellegrini to lean on experience.

Pablo Zabaleta has featured just once so far in the league this season, but should he be recalled to the side to try help dig them out of a hole?

The 33-year-old right-back is a Premier League veteran that has brilliant experience and he was one of the most consistent performers at the London Stadium last season.

He’s lost his starting position to summer signing Ryan Fredericks, but the 25-year-old has endured a rough start to the top flight and is still adjusting to the step up from the Championship.

It may be a wise move to opt for Zabaleta in the next few games at right-back, as Fredericks is still getting to grips with life at West Ham after joining from Fulham.

Pellegrini’s position would look extremely bleak if he lost his opening seven league games in succession, which is why he needs his experienced professionals to bail him out of potential trouble.
