Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Bakary Sako, who is currently a free agent.
The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, and has a handful of clubs looking at a potential deal following the closure of the transfer window. The Sun on Sunday’s report suggested that West Bromwich Albion are also keen on the Forest target.
Aitor Karanka arguably has one of the most exciting squads in the Championship at his disposal. They may have made a slower start than many were expecting, but if everything clicks, Forest will be in promotion contention come the business end of the season.
Nevertheless, Sako could still be an excellent signing, especially as he will arrive on a free transfer. But perhaps, his arrival may not go down well with everyone at the City Ground.
Diogo Goncalves was one of the additions over the summer that really captured the imagination, with the youngster arriving on loan with an option to buy next summer.
But the winger has not made the best start, with Karanka handing him just one start and substitute appearance in the league thus far. He has been an unused substitute in Forest’s last three games.
It would appear that Karanka needs to be won over slightly, and Sako joining the club would surely make Goncalves’ job even tougher as the former has a proven record in the second tier and would probably jump ahead in the pecking order initially.
Goncalves cannot be written off, of course, but if Sako does end up joining, perhaps it would be fair to say that he may have to wait even longer before he gets the chance to prove himself.
