Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked with a move for Middlesbrough striker David Nugent.

If there’s one area where most Wolverhampton Wanderers fans would like to see at least another body in January it’s up front.
Wolves seemed to load up on midfielders and flair players during the summer transfer window, but failed to properly bolster their attack, which is arguably still missing Benik Afobe almost a year on from his move to Bournemouth.

A string of striking targets were mentioned ahead of August’s deadline – one being Middlesbrough’s David Nugent.
Nugent ultimately stayed put, but after playing just 39 league minutes so far, the 31-year-old may be keen to up sticks in January.
And if Nigel Pearson is appointed by Wolves – he is the current bookies’ favourite – it is easy to envisage Molineux being his destination.

Pearson inherited Nugent at Leicester five years ago, and the Liverpudlian consistently delivered more than 15 goals a season until the Foxes’ promotion in 2014.
Naturally, Nugent featured less often in the Premier League, but returned to the Championship with Boro last summer – scoring eight goals from a respectable 24 league starts.
With Wolves’ glamour names failing to deliver so far, a bit of second-tier nous could be just what the doctor ordered.
Pearson has it in abundance. So too does Nugent.
