Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Tottenham Hotspur were linked this week with making a remarkable move for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Mirror claimed Milinkovic-Savic is a top target for Spurs, but the problem is it would cost them a record transfer fee.
BBC Sport report Lazio already turned down a £61 million offer for the midfielder while Football Italia has reported the Italian side want closer to £90 million.
Already this is potentially putting him out of Tottenham’s price range, but it is key to note that Spurs broke their transfer record last season to sign Davinson Sanchez for £42 million.
Certainly towards the top end of Lazio’s asking price, Spurs would be out of the running, yet the midfielder ticks all the boxes for the sort of player Tottenham should be targeting.
The Serbian international is just 23-years-old, and he would be a direct replacement for Mousa Dembele who is now 30.
His potential is sky high, he is built for the Premier League and he is amassing great experience competing in Serie A on a weekly basis.
He has scored 13 goals and provided nine assists this season to go along with his midfield dominance.
The Independent report Manchester United are hopeful of a deal, and this could spur Tottenham on to consider laying out themselves.
Money is obviously a concern with a new stadium to pay for, but Tottenham can raise the money if they want to by selling players, with Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld two assets who are expected to be sold, while money could also be raised from cashing in on Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Serge Aurier if they wanted to.
Spending a lot of money on one player is not necessarily Tottenham’s habit but they made an exception for Sanchez, and like the Colombian, Milinkovic-Savic looks to be a truly special talent worth paying out for.
He ticks all the boxes and could help complete the spine of the Tottenham team for years to come with Sanchez and Kane.
It would mean a really bold move from Daniel Levy, but it’s one which would earn the chairman a lot of praise, from fans and pundits alike for showing ambition and for a fantastic player with his best years ahead.
