Would Leeds be better offering Mateusz Klich on loan to some of their Championship rivals?

Leeds United summer signing Mateusz Klich has been linked with a move away from the Championship club during January.

With Mateusz Klich being amongst the first deals that Leeds did in the summer, Whites fans would have been forgiven for believing that the Poland international would have been a crucial member of the squad this season.

However, the 27-year-old has endured a hugely frustrating time at Elland Road, making just a handful of appearances for the club – and now, it appears that talk of a January exit may be on the cards.

Polish outlet Przegladsportowy have recently suggested that he is likely to move in a couple of months time, while Dutch website Voetball Primeur reports that a loan return to the Eredivisie could be on the cards.

While letting him head back to the top flight in The Netherlands may be a smart idea to let Klich build some confidence, Leeds should instead perhaps consider trying to loan him out to one of their Championship rivals if they still feel that he can turn his fortunes around in the future.

Of course, it makes no sense to loan Klich to one of the teams Thomas Christiansen’s men will be hoping to battle with for a play-off place this season, but perhaps it would make perfect sense to reach out to a team such as Sunderland, Bolton or Birmingham.

The trio are currently situated in the bottom four in the division, and it is already looking unlikely that they will be battling for a place in the top six come the business end of the campaign – though it is not out of the question either, of course.

If they find themselves even further off the pace in the second tier by the time the January window comes around, Leeds should offer Klich to one of those teams.

The midfielder has shown when given a chance that he can be an influential player – most notably, starring in the Carabao Cup win over Burnley earlier this season – and joining one of the strugglers may perhaps present him with the opportunity to get some regular minutes under his belt and be an important player for those sides.

That should not only help him continue to acclimatise to the English game, but perhaps it will also help Leeds’ situation as he could potentially help one of those teams take points off the Whites’ promotion rivals.

And if next summer Leeds decide that they still do not have a place for him in their side, a positive loan spell should ensure that his value has gone up from where it probably is now, so it arguably seems like it could be a wise decision to allow the midfielder to head elsewhere if Christiansen has no plans to use him that often during the coming months.
