Speaking to BT Sport’s YouTube channel, Steve Bruce has rubbished suggestions that he was against the idea of Graeme Jones joining Newcastle as another coach.
The interviewer told Bruce that there had been suggestions that he didn’t want Jones to come into the club, but the Newcastle manager was quick to write off that as nothing but speculation, claiming that this was a move he was looking at for weeks.
“Again that’s negativity, that’s negativity that surrounds the club and fake news, it’s absolute rubbish,” Bruce said.
“Would I really let the club do that to me? And undermine me in that way? I don’t think so.
“We were looking at it, me and Lee Charnley for weeks, because of the problems we’ve had, not just because we’re on a bad run, but because it could come and help us.”

It must be frustrating for Bruce to hear these sort of things.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of Bruce as a manager, it’s not fair to put anyone under unnecessary pressure in their job by spreading mistruths and outright lies, and that’s seemingly what has happened here.
Jones coming in was seemingly Bruce’s idea, and this narrative that he wasn’t happy with him being appointed seems to have come from absolutely nowhere.
Hopefully, this situation can now be put to bed and everyone involved at St James’ Park can focus on the task at hand, and that’s keeping Newcastle United in the Premier League.
