Dusko Tosic has won successive Super Lig titles with Besiktas – but does not seem like a particularly inspired addition to Spurs’ squad.

Tottenham Hotspur have deservedly received no shortage of praise in recent times for their inspired array of bargain signings.

The likes of Christian Eriksen, Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen all moved to North London for not much more than £10 million before establishing themselves as some of the finest players in their position the world over.

Not every player who has arrived through the doors of White Hart Lane in recent seasons can be considered a success, however. Georges-Kevin N’Koudou (below) looks like the second coming of Clinton N’Jie, Vincent Janssen was a disaster while almost every one of their 2013 post-Bale additions failed to live up to expectations.

If you’re looking for the most distinctly underwhelming Spurs signing of recent years, however, that may be yet to come.

From QPR to Spurs

Serbian defender Dusko Tosic’s experience in English football amounts to a forgettable short-lived spell at Portsmouth and five games for Queens Park Rangers.

Turkish outlet Football Arena, however, is reporting that Tottenham are genuinely considering paying £7 million for Tosic in the New Year – eight years after his loan spell at QPR from Werder Bremen came to an end.

Did we mention that Tosic will be 33 years of age in January 2018?

It’s fair to say there won’t be too many Spurs fans lining up at the nearest club shop to get Tosun’s name and number on the back of their replica kits. After all, the veteran defender is likely to be nothing more than a useful back-up in Pochettino’s squad.

To hand Tosic his due, however, it must be added that he has been hugely impressive for Turkish giants Besiktas since joining in 2015, helping them to two successive Super Lig titles. Tosic has also featured in all four of Besiktas’ Champions League games this season with the Istanbul-based outfit set to qualify for the knockout stages.

Nonetheless, Tosic is not exactly the top class signing Spurs fans will be dreaming of. Apologies Danny Rose, you might have to resort to Google here.
