Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Arsenal legend David Seaman has been speaking about Newcastle United’s manager situation.

After the Magpies’ takeover, there have been plenty of reports stating that Steve Bruce won’t be in charge of the Tyneside outfit much longer, and inevitably, that’s led to speculation about who will replace the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

The likes of Brendan Rodgers and Antonio Conte have been linked, but Seaman believes Frank Lampard is the most likely man to get the job, stating that he would definitely take the chance if he was offered it.

What’s been said?

Seaman was speaking about Newcastle’s next manager.

“I would say he (Rodgers) wouldn’t leave Leicester. Frank would definitely go. He wants to get back into football there’s no doubt about that. Or do you go the other way with Conte or Pochettino at PSG? He’s not doing great at the moment, but he’s a really good Premier League manager. But Frank for me, he looks like the favourite,” Seaman said.

Risk

Lampard would be a high-profile appointment, but it would also be a risky one.

As much as Lampard is a legend of the game, he’s unproven as a manager, especially when it comes to managing a side scrapping down the bottom.

He took over a Derby County side that had the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson and only guided them to sixth, while he was sacked by Chelsea after less than 18 months in the job.

Lampard could be a great appointment, but there’s plenty of risk attached if this is the avenue Newcastle decide they want to go down.
