Michael O’Halloran’s Rangers career appears to be in doubt – but St Johnstone’s Danny Swanson would surely be an excellent addition.

Just four months after tearing them apart in the Scottish League Cup third round, Rangers splashed out half a million to bring St Johnstone’s wiry winger Michael O’Halloran to Ibrox, as reported by the Daily Record.
However, the 26-year-old has never managed to replicate his matchwinning performance in that 3-1 win in January 2016 in the colours of his current employers. Manager Pedro Caixinha banishing O’Halloran to the reserves after he missed a reserve team fixture, as reported by the Daily Record, represented a new low in a Rangers career that failed to take off.
Therefore, many Rangers supporters may believe this is enough of a reason for the club to avoid making any sort of an approach for out-of-contract St Johnstone star Danny Swanson in the summer.
The one-time Scotland starlet has rediscovered his best form at McDiarmid Park after a difficult couple of years south of the border with Peterborough United and Coventry City. In fact, with eight goals in 26 games from midfield, Swanson is enjoying the most prolific season of his career.
And, at the age of 30 and with his 18-month deal with The Saints expiring at the end of the season, this is the perfect chance for Swanson to make a final big move.

Manager Tommy Wright told the Daily Record that he would be ‘disappointed’ if St Johnstone’s talisman, who is inspiring another charge towards the top four, departed in the summer.
Yet, he appears to be almost the perfect signing for Rangers. Swanson has scored more goals than everyone in Caixinha’s squad bar the out-of-contract Kenny Miller this season. And, with the reborn midfielder available on a free, he would be a relatively low risk addition for the cash-strapped giants.
The question, however, is whether O’Halloran’s struggles after making the same move would make them think twice.
