Everton are reportedly interested in signing the Manchester United man.

It has been a pretty disastrous season for Ashley Williams at Everton.
The 33-year-old will do well to survive the axe this summer, but would the signing of Chris Smalling be the final nail in his coffin on Merseyside?
According to The Mirror, Everton are interested in signing the Manchester United centre-back in a move which would have implications for a number of defenders at Goodison Park, but particularly Williams.
Signed for £12 million in 2016, the former Swansea City man and Phil Jagielka are getting on in years and the interest in Smalling – if true – indicates that the Blues are ready to freshen up an aging back four.

Of course, Smalling, at 28, is no spring chicken, but he has a good few years left in the tank and surely Everton fans wouldn’t bat an eyelid if Williams was the one to make way.
Williams isn’t the most reliable of centre-halves and often frustrates the Goodison Park faithful, so Smalling would represent a massive upgrade and the supporters may not have to endure further error-laden displays from the Welshman for much longer.
