Leeds United are yet to properly replace Chris Wood.
Paul Heckingbottom’s main transfer priority this summer should be adding a striker that can finally replace the loss of Chris Wood at Leeds United, as Pierre-Michel Lasogga looks unlikely to have earned a permanent deal at Elland Road.
German forward Lasogga, who remains on loan from Hamburg, has scored just 10 goals all season – a third of what Wood managed during the 2016-17 campaign as Leeds missed out on the Championship play-offs by a whisker.
Wood has continued his excellent form after moving to Burnley for £15million, keeping former Leeds loanee Sam Vokes out of the side at Turf Moor after scoring five goals in his last six games for Sean Dyche’s side.
Vokes, 28, donned the white of Leeds during the 2009-10 season, scoring once in eight games during a two-month loan spell from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Currently overshadowed by the in-form Wood, Vokes possesses all the same traits as the New Zealand international and would surely be the perfect replacement for the Burnley hotshot at Elland Road?
Vokes, a 58-time Wales international, has just a year remaining on his contract and the Burnley number nine boasts huge Championship experience – turning out 198 times in England’s second tier with a ratio better than one goal every four.
Burnley may look to sell Vokes on the cheap this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free in the summer of 2019, and luring him to Elland Road would give Heckingbottom the perfect replacement to Wood.
