Hibernian manager Jack Ross believes Josh Doig can emulate the success of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney amid reported interest from Celtic, Leeds United and Arsenal, speaking to the Daily Record.

Everything is looking up at Easter Road.

Not only are Hibs flying high in third place and dreaming of European football next term, they have also succeeded in tying down one of Britain’s most highly rated youngsters to a shiny new contract.

Goal reports Arsenal, Leeds, Celtic and Manchester City are all interested in Doig, a flying left-back who has exploded on to the scene during a breakthrough 2020/21 campaign.

But, with the ink still drying on a contract valid until 2025, Doig will either stay at Hibernian for the long haul or be sold for a substantial transfer fee, with the Edinburgh giants protecting the market value of their prized asset.

In Tierney and Robertson, the finest left-backs in the UK arguably hail from north of the border and it seems Scotland have uncovered another fleet-footed wideman with potential by the bucketload.

“We run away with ourselves very quickly when young players make a big impression. But Josh undoubtedly has a mindset and temperament allied to really modern attributes as a full-back, which will enable him to have a really good career,” says former Sunderland coach Ross.

“There are parts of his game he needs to improve on but I think he can improve them, which is key.

“If he can get to the levels of the guys mentioned (Tierney and Robertson) that would be outstanding but it’s not a pipe dream for him to have that sort of ambition.”

Like the £23 million Arsenal flyer and Liverpool’s Champions League winner, Doig is a thoroughly modern full-back capable of winning a game on his own in the final third.

The teenager scored one and assisted the other during Hibs’ 2-0 victory at home to Hamilton last week.
