Gabby Agbonlahor told TalkSPORT on Wednesday morning (8.41AM) that “it would be nice” to see Tottenham have a player like Arsenal do in Martin Odegaard – one that can connect the Spurs defence and midfield to their front three.

Tottenham have made a solid start to the Premier League season and restart their campaign on Boxing Day. They go up against Brentford in West London in the Premier League, before facing Aston Villa at home on New Year’s Day.

They sit just two points behind Manchester City after 15 games – though City have a game in hand. Arsenal are a very impressive seven ahead with a game in hand – but they have list Gabriel Jesus. So, all to play for ahead of January.

Antonio Conte will want Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board to back him again next month. If Spurs do look to back Conte, it will surely come in the form of signing a no.10 and a right-back, most importantly. Agbonlahor had his say.

He says Spurs need a player like the captain of their biggest rivals, in £30m Arsenal star Odegaard. His ability to knit things together, not only create chances – but score goals too. Agbonlahor says Spurs need an Odegaard-like player.

“For Tottenham, it would be nice to get a four [in defence], two [midfield] and then an Odegaard like Arsenal have got – someone who can get on the ball, a no.10 to feed the front three. It would be nice for Spurs to have that option.”

Agbonlahor: Tottenham need player like Arsenal have in Odegaard

Obviously, Odegaard will not be going to Tottenham any time soon. That is not what Agbonlahor is saying. Indeed what he is saying makes complete sense. Spurs lack an Odegaard-type player, branded “phenomenal” by Mikel Arteta.

Dele Alli, Eriksen, Gio Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele – all recent examples that have all eventually flopped at Tottenham. Spurs must be wary that if that they do bring in a player of this type, they play to his strengths – allow him to shine.
