Finland boss Markku Kanerva feels it would be ‘nice’ to see Rangers star Glen Kamara test himself at a higher level, amid reported transfer interest from Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.
Kamara moved to Ibrox in January 2019 for £45k after the Gers agreed a Deadline Day deal with Dundee. The midfielder already had a pre-contract with Rangers for a free transfer.
Gerrard moved to improve Rangers with Kamara after he cemented his place in the Finland squad the previous year. He is now a 40-cap international, key to Kanerva’s Huuhkajat side.

Kamara also became key to Gerrard’s Rangers plans, with 123 games under the now-Aston Villa boss across all competitions. And the pair could soon be reunited in Birmingham, too.
The Daily Record report Aston Villa will ramp up their pursuit of Kamara from Rangers after hiring Gerrard as manager. They had explored a deal this summer, but decided not to bid.
Gerrard wants Kamara at Aston Villa, however, and 90min add the Rangers star would find it hard to say no. The England icon will also make the former Arsenal prospect a top target.

Finland boss wants Kamara to leave Rangers, amid Gerrard and Aston Villa interest
Finland boss Kanerva now, seemingly, wants Kamara to leave Rangers, amid Aston Villa and Gerrard’s transfer interest, too.
The 57-year-old has voiced desires for the 26-year-old to test himself at a ‘bigger’ club than the Gers. Where Kamara has so far played 32 Europa League games, including 11 qualifiers.
“He’s very relaxed all the time [on the pitch], but that doesn’t mean he’s not fighting,” Kanerva said, via Birmingham Live.
“Hopefully, he will continue his development. It would be nice to see him playing even at bigger clubs.”
Kamara left Arsenal for Dundee in 2017 after just one senior appearance in the League Cup under Arsene Wenger. He only featured in one further squad, in the Champions League.
