Tottenham Hotspur go yet another year without a trophy. Spurs managed to get into the Europa League on the final day of the season, but Arsenal winning the FA Cup means that Jose Mourinho’s side have to go through the qualifying stages.
That isn’t ideal for a team filled with so many talented players. The likes of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso, Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris among others are capable of achieving so much more, but none deserve more success than Harry Kane.
Harry Kane deserves to win trophies
The Englishman has carried Spurs for a few years now and the lack of trophies is hurting his career. Kane, like every other player, will want to win silverware and Spurs failing to do so season after season may make him want to leave the club eventually.
Former Spurs star Jermaine Jenas is hoping that Kane emulates Alan Shearer and chooses to stay at his boyhood club for the rest of his career. However, he also feels that it won’t do justice to his quality and has urged him to follow Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker’s footsteps to win trophies elsewhere.
Jenas told The Mail: ” ‘I do feel like it is a similar situation (to Gareth Bale). I love Harry, he’s one of the best strikers in Europe but I also look at his career. I personally would encourage Harry to start having a little knock and considering another move simply from a selfish point of view as a player.
“Look at what Kyle Walker has done since leaving – he’s gone and won two Premier League titles and could get to a Champions League final this year, he’s achieving things in his career and Harry is only picking up more and more injuries every year.
“Hopefully he doesn’t (leave), I really hope he is more of a mindset of what Alan Shearer which was “I love this club, I love being here and I want to be here for the rest of my career”. But it’s hard for me to think without my footballer’s head on in terms of what I think would be best for him.”
Should Kane stay at Tottenham?
Kane is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in Europe. The Englishman has been banging in goals consistently for years now but, sadly for him, that isn’t resulting in any form of silverware.
The closest Tottenham have come to winning a trophy is when they made it into the final of the Champions League last season. However a disappointing performance there, and a torrid start to the campaign this term, has left them further away from a trophy than they have been in recent times.
Mourinho is the man to bet on if Tottenham are after silverware. However, Spurs supporters are no fans of their boss’s system and some of them feel that their club is going backwards under the experienced Portuguese manager.
Kane will most likely stay at the club for another season. However, another trophyless campaign will make him want to consider his future. Him leaving would be a bigger blow for Spurs than when Bale left, and they might take a few years to recover from that, with or without Mourinho.
