Napoli continue to push for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger and there are suggestions that a swap for midfielder Gokhan Inler might work.
Napoli have been linked with Liverpool defender Daniel Agger for weeks but they seem to be no closer to agreeing a deal, prompting suggestions that they should use Gokhan Inler as bait.
The Partenopei started the winter transfer window looking to add at least one defender and one midfielder to their ranks.
Signing Verona’s highly-rated midfielder Jorginho was a big coup for Napoli, but a reliable defender continues to elude them.
Having reportedly been priced out of a move for Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic, Napoli have turned their focus again to Agger.
But Agger has stressed that he isn’t interested in hearing transfer speculation and Liverpool seem keen to keep him at the club.
Rafa Benitez may be reluctant to let Inler leave, but the need for a defender at the Stadio San Paolo seems greater and he would be able to reshuffle to deal with the loss of Inler.
It seems that a deal could be mutually beneficial in theory but whether any money would be exchanged in the deal remains unclear.
There may also be a problem with persuading both players to move as Agger has stated his intention to stay put and Inler hasn’t given much indication of wanting to leave Naples.
