Everton may have beaten Huddersfield Town 2-1 on Tuesday evening in what was a rather forgettable game, it will have been a memorable occasion for one player.
Indeed, Jean-Philippe Gbamin made his first start for Everton in over two years, coming 738 days after his last start against Watford in August 2019.
Sadly, the Ivorian’s Everton career has never really gotten going. He’s played very little football for the Toffees, so much so that each of his last three appearances have come under different managers.
However, it now seems as though he’s back on track. He was deemed fit enough to start against Huddersfield, and he even impressed some supporters.
Now, we’re not going to argue that Gbamin looked back to his best or that he ran the show because after two years out, it’s almost impossible for any player to return to their best form immediately.

Gbamin did look decent though, he may have been a couple of seconds off the pace, but you could certainly see there were glimpses of quality and that he could be a real asset once he’s back up and running with more minutes under his belt.
Regardless of how he played, the most important thing is that he completed the full 90 minutes, and Everton supporters are buzzing for him.
Here’s what the Goodison Park faithful have been saying on social media…
