Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they think Mikel Arteta should transform Nicolas Pepe into a centre-forward.

The Emirates faithful believe the Ivory Coast international would benefit from playing closer to goal, instead of hugging the touchline out wide.

One fan states that the Arsenal No.19’s finishing ability would potentially make him a good No.9.

Another supporter referenced his inability to beat a man out wide when justifying their opinion.

Pepe – who earns £100,000-a-week – has scored five goals in 20 appearances this season, with all of those coming from the right as Transfermarkt shows.

However, the former LOSC Lille attacker has played as a centre-forward before, mainly for the Ligue 1 outfit.

As Transfermarkt shows, Pepe has made 22 appearances throughout his career as a No.9, scoring six goals in those outings.

For a comparison, the Ivorian has netted 46 career goals in 131 appearances as a right-winger, while also assisting 32 goals in that position.

It would be a bold move from Arteta seeing as he already has Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play centrally.

However, with Bukayo Saka in such incredible form on the right, and Gabriel Martinelli on the left, perhaps it could be a fruitful experiment to trial Pepe in the middle.

Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying…
