Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter believe that they already have a potential class replacement for Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgium international looks set to leave after eight years in North London.

The Spurs centre-back is out of contract with the club next summer and no extension has been agreed as of yet.

Japhet Tanganga’s emergence is a positive in an otherwise poor season for Tottenham.

The 21-year-old, who came through the club’s academy, had been impressing at left-back under Jose Mourinho following Mauricio Pochettino’s dismissal.

But he is naturally a centre-back and with money tight at the Lilywhites these days, the club’s fans believe that Tanganga deserves the chance to replace the long-serving Belgian.

Here’s what some of them are saying on Twitter:

Mourinho is known for having and coaching some very fine centre-backs, with Raphael Varane of Real Madrid previously raving about how the Portuguese manager has improved his game in Spain.

And if Mourinho views Tanganga as a central defender for the long term then that suggests the youngster could have what it takes.

That being said, Vertonghen has been a pillar of strength in this Tottenham team for close to a decade and he won’t be easily replaced at all.
