Some Everton fans on social media have been reacting after The Telegraph reported that they’re keen on a move for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley.

What’s the story with Barkley?

The Telegraph claim that Barkley is one of the names on Rafa Benitez’s list heading into the January transfer window.

Barkley hasn’t played much football in the past two years, he’s rotting on the bench at Chelsea, while he even struggled to get into the Aston Villa first-team last season.

Everton could certainly do with reinforcements in January, but it’s fair to say that fans aren’t keen to see Barkley return to the club.

Tone deaf

Everton and Barkley of course have a history, with the midfielder coming through at Goodison Park, but after he left in acrimonious circumstances, fans don’t want to see him come back.

Indeed, supporters are adamant that they don’t want Barkley back at the club.

Of course, this comes not long after the club hired Rafa Benitez, who wasn’t a popular choice at all, as their manager.

Sadly for Everton fans, a precedent has been set at Everton, and while fans may not want him back, that isn’t to say that the powers that be won’t move for the midfielder.

Fan reaction

Supporters aren’t very happy with this rumour.

It’s not hard to understand why. Barkley is a largely unpopular figure amongst Everton supporters after his departure back in 2018, while he’s also seemingly regressed on the pitch.
