It’s probably safe to say that Stan Collymore isn’t a huge fan of Arsenal hitman Alexandre Lacazette.
The French striker started the 3-0 drubbing by Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and he was among the Gunners players who struggled in a major way.
Lacazette, who was on the pitch for 65 minutes, managed only 15 touches in a game that pretty much passed him by.
The former Lyon marksman joined Arsenal in 2017 for some £50 million but has managed only 40 goals in 104 Premier League appearances – a modest return in comparison to what he cost.
And Collymore has told The Mirror that his performance against Villa was among the worst displays from a striker that he has seen for quite a while.
He said: “Alexandre Lacazette’s performance against Aston Villa was the worst I have seen from a Premier League striker for some time. Everybody plays poorly, but what I saw from the Frenchman was an indifference, a lack of working for his team and a lack of doing the basics right, which should worry Arsenal fans.”
Lacazette has had some cracking games for Arsenal, but he certainly isn’t a 25-goal-a-season man like his partner in crime Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
That being said he’s also a different sort of player, similar to Roberto Firmino if anybody, but even then he isn’t setting up many chances for his team-mates either.
With Aubameyang off the boil in terms of goalscoring, Lacazette really needs to step up and although he has scored three Premier League goals this season, it isn’t enough when you’re starting virtually every week.
