Eric Dier’s poor form at Tottenham continues.
Gent’s Kalifa Coulibaly in action with Tottenham’s Eric Dier
Mauricio Pochettino’s persistence in playing Eric Dier at centre-back continues to plague their season with the England international once again culpable for errors on a dismal night at Wembley.
Tottenham were expected to see off Gent despite their 1-0 loss from the first leg, and began comfortably.
Spurs went 1-0 up through Christian Eriksen before Harry Kane scored an own goal, but fought back to lead after a Victor Wanyama strike.
Having put themselves just one goal away from going through, Spurs blew it, conceding a late goal after being caught on the break with Dier trying to play offside and getting it wrong.
After a superb season last year, Dier has been a disappointment this time around, unable to force his way into midfield after Wanyama’s arrival.
Pochettino has persisted selecting him at centre-back instead, last night as part of a trio, but with negative outcomes.
Dier was responsible for goals conceded against Monaco in the Champions League late last year, and was at fault in the defeat to Liverpool a fortnight ago.
Supporters are losing patience with seeing the England international line up at centre-back, and reacted negatively to his latest display…
