Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Liverpool have made a mistake in not buying another forward this summer.
The former Aston Villa striker also claimed that Roberto Firmino has a ‘worse’ strike-rate in front of goal than he did during his playing days, as he told talkSPORT (04/09/21 at 7:40 pm).
Agbonlahor netted 73 goals in 322 Premier League games for Villa (transfermarkt), Firmino, on the other hand, has netted 67 times in 214 appearances for Liverpool (transfermarkt).
So, the radio pundit is wrong with his claim, and unless Firmino scores only six goals in his next 100+ league games for the Reds, then the £29 million player (BBC Sport) definitely has a better strike rate.
Nonetheless, this is what Agbonlahor had to say about Liverpool’s title chances and worries in the forward areas.
“They will be in a race, but for me, they won’t win it because they have missed out this transfer window by not bringing in another attacking player,” said Agbonlahor.
“Firmino’s strike-rate is worse than mine, and that’s saying something. He is injured now.
“If you ask Liverpool fans, they will say the same. If you ask ex-Liverpool players, they will say the same. On his Instagram, Jose Enrique said that he couldn’t believe they didn’t bring in another forward.
“If one of Jota, Mane or Salah gets injured, two of them are going to the Africa Cup of Nations, so you need better squad depth.”

There’s no doubt that Liverpool should have added more depth to their forward areas this summer.
Their injuries in defence last season proved what a big problem it can become for them.
But if Mohamed Salah, Firmino, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota, can stay out on that pitch for large parts of this season then there’s no doubt that Jurgen Klopp’s men will challenge for the Premier League title.
But perhaps, their rivals, have edged ahead of them with the summer they have had.
Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea, the current champions splashed £100 million on Jack Grealish and Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford.
Whilst the Merseyside giants are in a title race this season, it could be argued that the above trio are ahead of them in that race, which will probably suit them.
