Sunderland are still waiting for their season to really get going after they drew 1-1 at home with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Cats had a rousing 2-2 draw at Preston North End before the international break, and fans were hoping to see their side kick on with a positive result against QPR.
However, QPR took advantage of some slack defending from a corner to take the lead in the first half, with striker Idrissa Sylla heading the ball home from close range.
Sunderland had to hit back in the second half, and did so when winger Aiden McGeady struck home a superb long-range equaliser, but the Black Cats couldn’t find a winning goal.
It’s now just one win in 12 Championship games this season for Sunderland, and they sit second-bottom of the table with just eight points so far this term.
Manager Simon Grayson may now be realising the magnitude of the challenge facing him following his summer move from Preston, and one of his signings has yet to really impress.
Striker James Vaughan left Bury to reunite with Grayson over the summer having worked together at Huddersfield Town, but Vaughan has scored just one goal this season.
Fans took to Twitter during and after Saturday’s game to criticise Vaughan, suggesting that he simply isn’t good enough to be leading the line, and may even be worse than Brett Angell, with some feeling that he shouldn’t start for the club again as he was hauled off at half time against QPR following a dismal display.
