On Sunday, Tottenham suffered a second successive defeat at home when Wolves recorded a 2-0 win in north London.

Both goals were scored within 20 minutes of kick-off, and their first – a stunning volley from Raul Jimenez – was conceded in worrying fashion.

What’s the story?

Well, a screenshot from the passage of play shows six Tottenham players stood watching on the edge of the box as Jimenez smashes the ball in.

Of course, still images can be taken out of context in football, although footage from the sequence of play backs up the photo.

You can see what we’re talking about below.

Clearly, Antonio Conte has a big job on his hands to galvanise his squad, as things like this aren’t really to do with coaching.

There is clearly a lack of desire from the Spurs players – it’s genuinely hard to fathom how only one of the six statuesque players, Rodrigo Bentancur, decided to put pressure on Jimenez before his strike.

Antonio Conte has biggest task of his career at Tottenham

The Italian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on November 2nd, and we’re still yet to see much improvement from Spurs, which is very worrying.

There has been some progress in terms of the quality of football, although the squad’s character and desire remains weak.

Should there be no improvement, then we’re not quite sure what Daniel Levy does next.

Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho and Conte are among the most esteemed coaches in Europe, and if none of them can get a tune out of this group, who can?

Furthermore, if someone as intense as Conte can’t motivate this squad, then other top-class coaches may be apprehensive about managing Tottenham in future.

For many reasons, Conte has to succeed at Spurs, or it will be difficult for Tottenham in the long run.
