Tottenham now have the strength in depth to deal with worst possible case scenario.

Tottenham Hotspur have done an outstanding job in recent season of tying their key players to long term contracts, with one exception.
Spurs have as yet been unable to get Toby Alderweireld to sign a new deal, with his current contract set to expire in 2019.

Alderweireld has been a tremendous player for Tottenham over the past two years alongside Jan Vertonghen, and letting him leave was previously unthinkable, a worst case scenario.
Tottenham are now potentially equipped to deal with it.
This is due to the record signing of Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, who gives Spurs added depth at the position.

Sanchez, 21, has to prove he can adjust to the Premier League and justify his price tag, but so far in his career he has stepped up to every challenge put in front of him.
Given the option right now, Spurs would not want to let Alderweireld go even if they were pushed into it.
In 12 months time if a huge offer comes in and his representatives continue to agitate for a move, Tottenham could be tempted to consider cashing in if Sanchez has proven himself.
It would still be a worrying departure, but it is now a real option thanks to Sanchez’s arrival, if the Belgian cannot come to terms on an extension with the North London club.
