Glenn Hoddle has told BT Sport that he doesn’t actually think Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela can tackle.

Lamela was sent off for Spurs in their defeat to Arsenal at the weekend and he was booked against Dinamo Zagreb last night.

The Argentine winger’s disciplinary record is now awful.

Although Lamela has only received one red card in his entire Spurs career, he consistently picks up bookings.

And Hoddle was scathing in his analysis of the wide-man yesterday.

“When I’ve seen him play I like his work-rate but he doesn’t quite actually know how to tackle,” the Spurs legend said.

“He’s not a great tackler and nor was I. He goes in and makes a lot of fouls.

“The jury is out with him and has been for a long time. He should be doing more than he has done. 250 games in and I’m still worried about him.”

Lamela certainly didn’t respond to his red card in the North London derby in the ideal manner.

The Tottenham man was effectively anonymous last night, although he was no worse than many of his teammates.

Tottenham were dumped out of the Europa League after losing 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb, which has caused frustrations around the North London club to rise.
