The Everton midfielder is recuperating from a serious ankle injury suffered at Goodison Park in the Toffees last game.
The world of football has been wishing Everton midfielder Andre Gomes all the best in his recovery after the Toffees ace shared a video message on Twitter.
The Portuguese fan favourite suffered a fractured dislocation to his right ankle during last Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw between Everton and Tottenham at Goodison Park.
A statement by Everton on Monday – as quoted by BBC Sport – said surgery “went extremely well” and Gomes, who has been released from hospital, is “expected to make a full recovery”.
On Wednesday, the 26-year-old posted a video on Twitter where he thanked those who offered him words of comfort over the past few days.
In the video, which was captioned “Thank you for your unconditional support”, he said: “Hi everyone. As you already know everything went well. I’m already at home with my family.
“I would like to thank you all for the support, messages and the positive energy. Thank you.”
Gomes’ message prompted a heartfelt response from Everton fans, neutrals and prominent football accounts and personalities including Arsenal legend Ian Wright:
Everton manager Marco Silva had previously said that the club would give Gomes and his family all the support they needed, as quoted by The Mirror.
“He is seriously injured but I am 100 percent sure Andre will become stronger as a football player and as a man because he is a fantastic lad, a fantastic professional,” he added.
Everton forward Cenk Tosun scored a 97th-minute equaliser to earn a point for Marco Silva’s side after Dele Alli’s second-half opener at Goodison Park in the game.
