Julien Laurens has told ESPN that Liverpool-linked Antoine Griezmann is ‘not welcome’ at Barcelona.
90 Min have claimed that given Griezmann’s situation at the Nou Camp, his agent has met with several Premier League sides, including Liverpool and Manchester City.
Look no further than in Catalonia for perhaps the worst-run team in club football because those in the Barcelona boardroom have made an utter mockery of the Spanish giants.
And despite those links with Liverpool, it seems as though Griezmann, who only moved to Barca for £107 million (BBC Sport) in 2019, could now return to Atlético.
And this is what Laurens had to say about the current situation of his fellow countryman.
“I think he can feel that he’s not welcome anymore at the club,” said Laurens. “He knows that they have to cut the wage bill.
“Let’s not forget that he earns £36 million gross-a-year, which is around £800k-a-week. That’s a lot of money for someone who is 30 and who hasn’t had two very good seasons, let’s be honest.
“We still not sure how he fits with Lionel Messi. Add Sergio Aguero and then add Memphis Depay.
“Then you can clearly see he is one they can open the door for sale and it’s him. I think he will be happy to go back to Diego Simeone, go back to Atlético and I think his family will be happy too.”
It begs the question as to why any Premier League club would bring in Griezmann’s talents even if they were offered him.
Not only have his performances gone down the drain in recent years, but the 2018 World Cup winner is on ridiculous wages.
A number of years ago, Griezmann would have been a sought-after figure for teams across Europe, but that’s no longer the case and that was proven by his performances during France’s early exit at the recently-concluded Euro 2020.
